Underrated Movies for Halloween Week 5: Spookies October 23 2016

Grimy greetings, reader! This is Jimmy, Pizza Party Printing co-owner, artist, and resident horror movie nerd supreme again, here with another underrated horror gem to put you in the Halloween spirit! This time we're talking about 1986's bat-shit incredible haunted house movie: Spookies!

Where do I even start with this manic monstrosity of the VHS age? Essentially two separate movies that were edited together into one wriggling pile of slop once the studio saw the original cut and hated it, this forgotten flick is a delirious haunted house ride full of spiders who melt awful comedians, zombies who fart uncontrollably, and a plot with more holes than Swiss cheese shot with a machine gun.

Speaking of plot, here's all that you need to know (and all that there is!): A group of people make a wrong turn and end up at a haunted house where a sorcerer kills them off one by one to revive his bride. Very original, I know. But what's so appealing about this horrific horror flick is the special effects! Take every creature-effect from movies like Deadly Spawn to Ghoulies to Pumpkinhead, throw 'em in a blender with some extra goop and grime and tell a 13 year old boy with an overactive imagination to make a movie with the creepy concoction and you've got Spookies. All manner of disgusting demon and phrightening phantom populate this piece of sleaze on celluloid!

Unfortunately, this movie is very hard to find these days as there was never an official DVD or Bluray release, so you'll have to track down an old VHS or watch it on Youtube to experience this shit-show. This movie is a ton of fun to watch with your friends over a few dozen beers, which is why I give it my highest rating of 5 guys wearing a shirt with their own face printed on it out of 5!

That's all for this week reader! Check back next week for my next, and last, vile video recommendation!

Underrated Movies for Halloween Week 4: Popcorn (1991) October 17 2016

Grimy greetings, reader! This is Jimmy, Pizza Party Printing co-owner, artist, and resident horror movie nerd supreme again, here with another underrated horror gem to put you in the Halloween spirit! This time we're talking about 1991's horror obsessed horror flick:Popcorn!

This horror flick by horror nerds about horror nerds who show horror flicks is a grade-a, certified, knocked-it-outta-the-park underrated blast! The story to this atrocious attraction is all over the place in the best way possible: Is it a slasher movie? Oh yeah. A movie in a movie? Try 3 of 'em! Is there a back story about an art-film murder cult lead by a Manson-esque hippie overlord? That's a very specific question... but YES!

When a group of film students decides to do an all-night horror moviethon, complete with the original promotional gags from when the movies came out (Giant mosquitoes! Electrified theater seats! Dead dog smell!) they quickly find out that one moviegoer snuck in something much worse than outside food or drink: MURDER. Once the film starts rolling so do the heads!

This movie is a ton of fun and definitely has it's heart in the right place when it comes to it's pitch-perfect homages to the horror movies of yesteryear, all night movie marathons, and making you feel like a part of the rambunctious and costumed movie audience, which is why I give it my highest rating: 5 very out of place reggae bands out of 5!

That's all for this week, reader! We're down to the home stretch, so check back next Friday for another wretched recommendation!

Underrated Movies For Halloween Week 3: Night Of The Demons October 07 2016

Slimy salutations, reader! This is Jimmy, Pizza Party Printing co-owner, artist, and resident horror movie nerd supreme again, here with another underrated horror gem to put you in the Halloween spirit! This time around it's 1988's unbeatable demonic possession party movie: Night of the Demons!

The only movie on this entire list that actually takes place on Halloween, this flick is perfect for getting you ready for the big day. Whatever you do though, don't confuse this with the far inferior 2009 remake! Blech!

This flick is a perfect slice of 80's horror sinema! Satanism, punks, boobs, demons, and gore all rolled up into a big, greasy casserole, stuffed in a jack-o-lantern and punched right into your face! When a group of rowdy teens decides that the conventional Halloween thrills and chills aren't enough for them, they spend the night in the legendary "Hull House", an abandoned funeral parlor where they perform a seance and... nothing really happens and they have some fun then go home the next morning a little tired. PSYCH! Of course they all turn into a bunch of blood thirsty demons that rip each other to shreds until the light of dawn!

This movie is equal parts Return of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead and just as awesome! If anything, the opening sequence alone is worth the price of admission! I give this one a solid 5 disappearing lipsticks out of 5!

That's all for this week, reader! Check back next Friday for another wretched recommendation!
Also check out our brand new enamel pins!

Underrated Movies For Halloween Week 2: Black Roses September 30 2016

Ghoulish greetings, reader! This is Jimmy, Pizza Party Printing co-owner, artist, and resident horror movie nerd supreme again, here with another underrated horror gem to put you in the Halloween spirit! Second up we've got the heavy-metal horror classick Black Roses!

I'm going to be completely honest, I freaking love this movie. It's got it all: great special effects, an over the top heavy metal soundtrack, a weird and misguided moral message, and more cheese than last week's lasagna! When Black Roses, the biggest metal band in the country, announce that they're going to kick off their tour in the auditorium of a small-town high school (y'know, just like all the biggest metal acts do), the town goes into a frenzy. The adults in town grow worried when the kids want to listen to heavy metal more than they want to talk about poetry and do their homework! The horror! Turns out Black Roses want to raise little a hell and use their music to posses the kids and turn them into demons who kill their parents!

This movie is a blast, has some pretty sweet monster designs, and is also a pretty interesting glimpse into the whole Satanic-panic, PMRC, anti-heavy metal crusades era of the 80's!  I give this flick 5 pervy English-teacher moustaches out of 5!
Need something to wear while watching the movie?  Grab one of our Halloween masks!
That's all for this week reader! Check back next Friday for my next wretched recommendation!

Underrated Movies To Get You in the Mood For Halloween Week 1: Burial Ground

Hey there, reader! This is Jimmy, Pizza Party Printing co-owner, artist, and resident horror movie nerd supreme! We're just six weeks away from my favorite holiday of all time:Halloween and I've decided to list off 6 of my favorite underrated horror movies that never fail to get me in the mood for cooler weather, falling leaves, and all the ghouls to come out!

This week is one of my favorite Italian zombie sleaze-fests ever created, 1981's Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror. Equal parts bonkers and disgusting, Burial Ground is way more than your standard shambling gut-muncher. A group of "young" and "cool" people go off to a mansion for a weekend of rest, relaxation, and awkward sex-scenes, but wouldn't ya know it when they get there they get eaten by zombies! But what this movie has going for it isn't so much the plot but it's bizarre atmosphere, plenty of good kills and gore, some surprisingly neat looking zombies, and a 30-year-old man playing a 9-year old boy named Michael with some solid dialogue ("Mother, this cloth smells of death!"). This movie is a ton of fun, and perfect for watching with a group of friends and some cold beers. I give it my highest rating: 5 chewed-off nipples out of 5!

And if you're in the Baltimore area on Thursday, October 6th, swing by Mondo Baltimore where they'll be showing the movie on the (2) big(ish) screens! Click here to RSVP!

Well that's all for this week, folks! Check back next Friday for a new repulsive recommendation!

Throw Back Thursday - They Live November 06 2014

They Live!  What an awesome movie.  If that movie's only good part was the fight scene, it would still be an amazing movie.  But I love everything about this movie, so we decided to show it this past April and have our buddy Alex Fine design a poster for it.

It all started when I ran into Alex at a rock show and asked him if he was interested in doing a new design for us.  He told me he had a great idea for doing They Live and making it glow in the dark.  At first the idea was to do a shirt, but we then changed it to be a poster design.  We love working with Alex and have had him design a few things for us:

We also had our intern at the time Joe Maccarone design an animation to advertise They Live being shown with Big Trouble In Little China.  He did an excellent job, check him out

Overal the poster turned out rather well.  The glow in the dark for the background was a custom made glow in the dark ink using phosphorescent powder and some clear base.  We noticed that the after that layer dried, that it was a bit powdery and wiped off a little bit so we took some Krylon clear matte finish to seal it in.

We then wen to Alex's apartment and had him sign the posters.  These were limited to 34 prints and have been long gone.  We've talked about maybe reprinting them in the future with a different color scheme.

Long awaited reprints! October 27 2014

We have decided to do reprints of 6 classic designs!  You can get them as t-shirts, ladies tees, baseball tees, long-sleeves, and hoodies.  Not to mention you can also pre-order larger sizes like 4X-large and 5X-large.
